đź’ś Career Well-being: The high cost of "free" career advice

Dear Thriving Introvert! In this newsletter, I'll cover:

  • Stuck in a "Frankenstein" job search? The cost of "free" career advice.
  • An honest breakdown of LinkedIn Premium
  • FREE EVENT: How to Advocate for Your Impact as a Remote/Hybrid Employee

I've been having more and more free calls and hearing similar complaints from leaders. It goes like this:

"I've been following some coaches online and even used ChatGPT to update my LinkedIn and resume. I still haven't seen a recruiter in my profile and haven't had interviews. I feel like I'm doing all the right things and nothing is happening."

They update their career documents almost every day based on patchwork-free career and job-search advice they hear online or through AI tools.

This week, I hope you understand the cost of relying on free advice and information overload, and how to use it to your advantage.

Also, join me on Tuesday, the 24th, for a free webinar. See information below.

đź’ˇ Stuck in a "Frankenstein" job search? The cost of "free" career advice.

You have access to more free career advice than any generation before you.

Between AI-powered resume builders, endless LinkedIn tip videos, and the constant stream of "hustle" content on your feed, the answers are everywhere.

And yet, despite all this information, you likely feel more stuck than ever.

Most leaders I speak with aren't suffering from a lack of effort. They are suffering from Information Overload.

This leads to what I call the "Frankenstein Effect."

On Monday, you read that you need a "punchy" headline with emojis. On Wednesday, a different expert says emojis look unprofessional, so you remove them. By Friday, you’ve stitched together conflicting advice from five different sources, creating a profile that feels disjointed and lacks a cohesive narrative.

Recruiters don't spend enough time on your profile to solve a puzzle. They need to see a clear, unified story of leadership in the first 6 seconds.

So, how do you stop the cycle of "constant tweaking"?

You need to stop guessing and start testing. You need the Job Search Scientific Method.

Inside, you will find:

  • Why you should commit to one strategy for 14 days and not change a single word on your resume.
  • How to spot if your profile is sending mixed signals to the algorithm.
  • Why relying on AI for your "About" section might be costing you the interview.
  • How to network quietly by focusing on 1:1 depth rather than broadcast breadth.

Stop letting the "noise" dictate your career strategy. It’s time to choose a single path and measure the results.

đź’» An honest breakdown of LinkedIn Premium

If you missed last week's article, I discussed Is LinkedIn Premium Worth It for Job Seekers? An Honest Breakdown. Recruiters do not find you because you have Premium. However, Premium does give you a different kind of leverage: Information. But what are the best features and how to use them? This article features my honest review, as a career coach, of how to use LinkedIn Premium to support your job search strategy.
